Hello,

I’m glad to greet you virtually and look forward to meeting you in person at the Blooming Grove United Church of Christ.  

I am honored to provide pastoral leadership for this forward-looking congregation, steeped in rich history from its founding in colonial times to its pioneering stance as an Open and Affirming congregation 25 years ago.  We offer full welcome to all regardless of background or identity designations.  

Each person has a part in the faithfulness of our worshipping community.  As we appreciate our unique heritage and look ahead to vital ministry in these times, we trust in God’s strength to show us the way.

Here’s some background on me:  I grew up on a rural hillside near Lititz, (Lancaster County) PA.  I lived in New England as an adult, graduating from Andover Newton Theological School and earning a Doctor of Ministry in Congregational Studies from Hartford Seminary (now Hartford International University of Religion).  

My ordained ministry includes serving churches in Greenfield, MA, Franklin, CT, Colchester, CT, and now Blooming Grove, NY.  I also provide retreat leadership and individual spiritual direction.

I’m grateful to be living in a three-generation household in Poughkeepsie, NY, with my daughter Julia Whitney Barnes, son-in-law Sean Hemmerle, and their two young children.  I enjoy family activities, walking my dog, gardening and music.
