Dear Blooming Grove United Church of Christ Friends,
Greetings to you in this summer season, when we give thanks for the gifts of growth and abundance. We look ahead and prepare for coming seasons. We give thanks to God and pray for guidance in all things.
In February 2016 I began as supply preacher at Blooming Grove United Church of Christ, and am currently serving as Transitional Pastor. I savor the music, the faithfulness and fellowship of our worshipping community. Each one has a part, as we appreciate our unique heritage, and look ahead to a vital ministry in these times. We trust in God’s wisdom and strength to show us the way.
For those of you I have not yet met, let me share a bit of background. I was born in Lancaster PA,, and grew up on a rural hillside near Lititz PA. As an adult, I spent 45 years in New England, graduating from Andover Newton Theological School, earning a Dr. of Ministry in Congregational Studies from Hartford Seminary, and completing a Spiritual Direction Practicum at Mercy Center in Madison, CT. My 30 years of ordained ministry included serving churches in Greenfield, MA, Franklin, CT and Colchester, CT.
Since retiring from full-time ministry in CT, I live in a three-generation household in Poughkeepsie, NY with my daughter, son-in-law, and their almost two-year old who keeps us all busy. I enjoy gardening, walking my dog, music, and family activities. I also help with retreat leadership and spiritual direction in other settings. I will be hosting my seventh ecumenical pilgrimage to the Holy Land in April 2018. (All are welcome.)
I am grateful to be serving as quarter-time pastor at Blooming Grove. Let us build on the good, heal the hurts, support one another, and reach out to others. As we celebrate the sacraments and live out God’s creating power—we join together in praise and service—as this Church on a Hill, offering Welcome to All.
Blessings and peace,
Pastor Linda Barnes
